Top secrets of a first class students you should know

TOP 10 SECRETS OF FIRST CLASS STUDENTS YOU SHOULD KNOW (Share This)

Here are the top ten most powerful secrets that are known by only few students who emerge with First class,  get this secrets now and join this team of outstanding scholars.
1, NATURAL BRILLIANCE:
There is a minimum level of natural brilliance that is required before a student can think of First Class. I do not intend to put limit to one’s capabilities, for I believe like most people that impossible is nothing. However, realistically speaking, that is an exception to the rule. Most First Class students have a track record from lower levels of education. That is the first foundation.

2.The power of dream

Most first class students dream. I do not mean metaphysical dream, I mean the Luther King definition – vision, forward- looking, even though awake. In secondary school I had a friend who once looked up and said, ‘the last time someone made an aggregate 6 (i.e minimum of 6 A1s in SSCE) in this school was 12 years ago, I want to be the next’. He made it. Same boy told me he wanted to ‘enter the back of JAMB brochure’, meaning he wanted to be among the top 3 JAMB students in Nigeria (JAMB print at the back of the brochure for a year the names of the best 3 candidates in the prior year’s examinations). He didn’t make it, but he scored 296. When this friend of mine entered Ife, he went to his faculty’s board, where names of best students are engraved every year, looked up and said, ‘when I leave this school after five years I want my name written on this board’. He worked for it. He didn’t make it. But he not only came out with a CGPA north of 4.7 (of the possible 5.0) but he also emerged as one of his faculty’s best. After that, he told someone that he wanted to have his PhD without doing Master’s degree. The person told him it was hardly possibly, and counted on his fingertips the number of Nigerians that performed that feat. My friend proved our doubter wrong. He got the PhD at age 29, skipping Master’s. That is the power of dream.

3. COMPETITION
What most people don’t know is that there is usually a subtle competition among best students in classes. The competition is not necessarily unhealthy. They may be –and in fact usually are – friends, but they compete. In my undergraduate days, story is told of a guy that, at the beginning of every semester, went to ask what X, the best student in the class immediately preceding his, scored in each course and he would tell those cared to listen to him that he would break the record and score higher than him. He did, most times. Most First Class students compete. Each wants to be the highest scorer in each subject. That is why it is always good to go to a competitive institution, rather than enjoy local championship status without stiff competition.
4. CALCULATION:
When you see some students reading a purely theoretical course and having calculator by the side, dont think they are insane or doing ‘over-syllabus’. No they are just running the permutations – if I score B in this course, what will my CGPA be? What is the worst case scenario? What is the best case scenario? How many A’s do I need to make X-CGPA? etc. These are calculations that go on in their heads. Some don’t even compute their GP’s at the end of a semester, they have the template in their heads already, having done the permutations over and over again even before writing the examinations, and they just insert the course scores into their mental template.
5, OPTIMISTIC MENTALITY:
Some students die many times before their academic death. How can a student gain admission into a school and the first thing he hears is, you can never make a First Class, they wont give you. Well, I dont believe this. This is what kills many students. How can you go to battle with a defeatist mentality and expect to win? Many First Class students defy these “messengers of doom” and pursue their target optimistically. I finished from the Obafemi Awolowo University and this is one thing I must commend students of the school for. As a Jambite, what you hear are stories of one Deji Akere that shattered school records, or one Hammed Shittu that effortlessly broke any record breakable. You even hear of stories of students that had graduated since the 1970s. These are stories that motivate you, not some tale by moonlight about a sadist lecturer denying you First class. This is another very vital feature of First Class students. They don’t believe rooster and bull stories.
6, ACADEMIC ENVIRONMENT:
Academic environment also helps. In a school where you spend most of your time queuing for water or transport or forced to read with candle, chances of academic success are very low. This is why Nigerian students do well abroad where they have all the facilities and learning is conducive. This is also why schools like OAU, UI and to some extent, Unilag, with strong students body that fight for students welfare like good transport system, power on campus, good water system etc, produce more First Class students. Same for private schools, where there is little or no worry about welfare.
7, COURSE OF STUDY:
Course of study is another very important factor. It is better to choose a course you are interested in, not one you are forced to do. Some otherwise brilliant students dont perform up to potential because they are not interested in what they are studying in the university.
8, THE EARLY YEARS ARE CRITICAL:
Some students get taken away by the euphoria of being a university student and spend their first year faffing around. Still, in some schools, year 1 performance is not aggregated as part of the overall grade. For most students, after performing woefully in their first two years, they now grab straw to salvage the situation in the later years. Needless to say, it is most times a futile exercise. But there are cases of great come-backs. The best two students in my class during my undergraduate days were not among top 15 in class after our first semester year 1. They were not even in First Class then. But they came back to overtake all of us early flyers. Well, that means there is still hope if you didn’t do too well after your year 1. But after year 2, the bridge may have fallen.
9, KNOW THYSELF:
The problem with many student is they try to ‘copy-cat’. While it is good to learn from the method of another high performer, it is important to know how to adapt it. Some students don’t need to read for more than 3 hours a day before they pass, indeed do excellently well and top the class. Some must read for at least 7 hours a day. I know First Class students that watched football and participated actively in campus religious activities. Some even get involved in departmental politics. It is about knowing oneself. But for most First Class students I know, reading the notes while still hot, and not waiting till they accumulate, is a common denominator.
10,….AND KNOW THY TEACHER TOO AND KNOW GOD:
Knowing how to approach a question in an examination is an art itself. How do you organize your answers? It goes beyond just picking the answer script and writing down what you think is the answer. Know what the lecturer wants. Does he want ‘lengthy story’? Or he wants it ‘short and snappy’? You may have a clue into this through your seniors who had taken the course earlier. First class students study not only the course, but the course-taker

Ksu boys and girls palava: 10 Categories of ksu ladies you should never woo if you are a broke guy

10 Categories Of KSU Ladies You Should Not Woo If You Are A Broke Guy
You may call this female bashing thread, but the truth of the matter is that, if you if ain’t deficient in thinking, you will know that many of these things are nothing but the bitter truth
Without deceiving ourselves, there are certain categories of KSU ladies that will turn you down in a wink no matter your level of confident, your talents, your certificate, dress sense and all that. Even the chances of a broke PhD holder dating them is liken to Bode George’s refusal to refund the billions of naira he embezzled

Without wasting time, let’s get to business cool
10 Categories Of Ksu Ladies You Should Not Woo If You Are a Broke Guy

1.Ladies who are obsessed with suya

Pls don’t get this twisted. There’s nothing actually wrong being suya lover, but the truth of the matter is that, you will see some ladies hanging at every suya joint. These categories of ladies will suya-zone you when you woo them. it’s better you run for your life
2. Ladies Who Keep Sugar Daddies
They roll with yahoo boys, 419s, sugar daddies and politicians. Wetin u wan use impress these kind ladies ? Money is being splashed on them that they see every other dude as people who are not of God’s creation. When I come in contact with these kinds of ladies, I bet Usain Bold will not catch up with me
3. Ladies Who Are Obsessed With Marriage
These categories of ladies are not spiritually inclined but they can foretell the future accurately than T. B Joshua. By mere looking, they can tell if your future will be bright or not. There’s no point asking these ladies for a relationship if you are still that broke dude living from hand to mouth
4. Ladies Who Are Voracious In Nature
It’s very shameful that when you invite some ladies on a date, they will come with their friends, if possible they can even bring their maid along. However, these ladies lack composure that waiters will be shaking their heads in disappointment. They will order for shawama, friend rice and chicken, juice, ice cream, cake and will eat as if there’s famine in the land. You should run faster than Usain Bolt when you notice these habit in ladies because they will screw you up and drop you when your cash no longer flows
5. Ladies Who Are Fashion Freaks
Having high taste in fashion and wearing good clothing is not a bad idea, but some are so obsessed with artificial parameters, that is, looking natural is a taboo to them. Even if they wake up by 7am, before taking their bath, they will apply make-up before stepping out of their compound. Funny enough, despite the application of facial parameters they wear on their skin, many of them will end up looking like Papa Ajasco. Oooboi na to run from these categories of babes oooo grin
6. Ladies Who Show No Appreciation For Gesture
During last week’s lecture (psychology) which main thrust centred on “A GESTURE OF APPRECIATION ; a controversial issue arose, and I was so astonished that the higher percentage of ladies in my class said that they will never call a guy who sends them N100 recharge card, but will manage to call or flash a dude who sends N500+ recharge card. This almost resulted in chaos and I couldn’t but shook my head for those ladies. There’s no point dating ladies with this mentality
7. Ladies That Change Their Dps 50 Times A Day . [/b]
Either you agree with me or not, apart from the fact that some ladies are photo freak, some are immature that they change their display pictures up to 30times daily. However, they do that to show their taste in fashion, level of exposure and their level of sophistication. These categories of ladies are scum in my personal opinion
8. Lazy Girls
When a lady is very lazy, she sees every man who comes her way as a messiah that she will mount her financial need on. They are so lazy that they don’t venture into skill acquisition exercise. They know nothing about bead making, hair dressing, baking, manicure and pedicure. These categories of ladies have the mentality of “a real man should always provide the need of his girlfriend”.
9. Party Freak
It’s a good thing to rejoice with people who are celebrating, but note that not every lady attend other people’s party with the intention of celebrating with them. However, some are so freaked that they will be the first to buy aso igbeyawo (wedding clothes) of people they barely know. They will dress gorgeous even more than the bride. You will see them disturbing photographers as if their lives depend on them. They will later take to their BBM, whatsapp, facebook and will flaunt their styles. These ladies will bash broke hustling dudes even if they hold Diploma or Bachelor’s degree
10. Feel free to add the last one

What's up !!!

What's up is back, after almost a week of absense.
The past dys has seen so many happenings around ksu.
First off; the different rumors here and there about the second list, when in actuality its just an update of the first list, nothing like the batch B or second list or second batch or wahever ksu aspirants call it. For now though, wether their will be a second list or not its left to be seen,my advice to aspirants is to get a jamb form and prepare for jamb exams,,keep your fingers crossed, keep hoping and keep praying.
Also, the sad sde news of the passing away of our beloved lecturer,Dr Rufus Adeleye of geography and planning. I think "gone so soon" is right, owing to the fact that this new crop of geo planning in 100l won't get the chance to feel his charm. Such a shame really. R.I.P sir...rest well in the upper "enfiroment".
For returning students lectures has started so start resuming, meanwhile for aspirants waiting for admission, ksu is a very ruthless institution, don't be suprised some people will gain admission some weeks before exams.
And finally the new v.c has waged war on those hostels criminals,so its better if you just stay out of anything hostel if you are in 200l or 300l

Gracias,time to kick out !!!

A 70-year-old man, recently graduated from the Virginia Commonwealth University in the United States.
Tap Van Kieu shared a photo of himself during his ceremony, holding a sign that details timeline of his major life events — including getting married, becoming a father and even a grandfather before realizing the dream of earning a degree.
Kieu’s daughter, Mary Kieu told Huffington Post, in an interview that fled Vietnam in 1975 during the fall of Saigon, with his wife, Kim, and their three young children.

He’s never been the kind of guy who could be idle for more than an afternoon,” she said, explaining how her father worked odd jobs all his life to provide for his family

I would describe dad’s story as one of so many other immigrants who are lucky enough to call this wonderful country home,” Mary said. “Work hard, believe in yourself, never give up, and even at the ripe age of 70, you can reach your goal.

Things You Must Work On Before Graduation

Things You MUST Work On Before Graduation

1. Spoken english
It is so sad that majority of Nigerian students in tertiary institutions don’t bother about polishing their spoken and written english. Some graduates speak english worse than a toddler, making one wonder what they spent 16yrs doing in school. You hear them spew gabbage like “he come and slap me and I come and beat him”. If you speak such english to an interviewer, even with first class clearly written on your CV, he will probably think you runzed your way through school. The use of words like yeah, goddamn, omo, sh*t, f**k etc should be stopped cos they don’t portray you as a decent person.
2. Mode of dressing
Looking fly on campus is one of the things undergraduate enjoys. It was fun cos you had so much of the opposite sex around to admire you. The moment you graduate, your orientation should change. Not that a graduate should stop wearing denims and sneakers, but sagging and putting on studs with crazy hairstyle should come to a stop if such a person wants to fit into the corporate world. In the corporate world, you get to mingle with matured or married men with enough decency. Sagging in their midst will make you look kiddo. Just cos your favourite musician davido sags his trousers doesn’t mean you should do thesame. He gets paid to do that while you could get fired for doing the same

3. Spendthrift Attitude
The first time I heard someone say his salary is 70k, I hissed and mocked him in my mind cos that was thesame amount we students spent on phones just to oppress each other. Now I’ve seen people earning less than 45k even with years of experience. What kind of person do you think you’ll turn out to be when all you want is the latest expensive gadgets? In the real world, no one cares about the kind of phone you use. Even on naija campus these days, girls have stopped falling for a guy because of the phone he uses, they now trip for flashy cars. So, before you spend that huge amount on a phone, ask yourself this question: “is it going to improve my standard of living?”. I didn’t know I could turn my smart phone to a mini laptop with WPS, Excel etc until I got employed. My phone was all about bbm, whatsapp and facebook. I now saw the full potential of the phone. You need to cut down on your spendings. Also, get the idea of clubbing off your mind or it might ruin your pockets. The money saved from disciplining yourself can be used to start something great. Use your head.
4. Laziness
You remember how you use to complain about the large notebooks you have to read for exams? If you lack a good reading culture, it is certain you will be bereft of ideas to contribute to a company’s growth. You are always seen reading gossip blogs where you are updated with the lifestyle of celebrities but lack the idea of what the top 20 questions interviewers ask. Scaling through campus days as a lazy person doesn’t mean such is likely to continue in the real world. Carrying on with laziness is what leads to prostitution, where a lady feels she can use her body to fetch her daily bread instead of her brain, or where a guy still expects his uncle to be the one to help him achieve his targets even after getting him a job through nepotism. You get to wonder why they spent 16yrs developing their brain in school.
5. Pride
I’ve now realise that 350k is only feasible for those in the oil sector and those with huge years of experience, not a fresh graduate who doesn’t know his left from his right. As you are about graduating, never see any job as demeaning. Take it up while you continue searching for a better one. This gives you experience. A bird in hand is better than a million in the bush. Remember, you are a nobody and no one gives a damn about you out there. So, drop your pride and use your head and hands or end up spending years still eating your mum’s food with insults.

Steps To Memorize Quickly And Not Forget

Steps To Memorize Quickly and not Forget

While most people are strongly against cramming, it is sometimes necessary. While concepts should be studied and understood, sometimes you have to memorize facts, figures and formulas, and that is where the ability to memorize quickly and not forget comes in. The problem is that recalling something requires learning, and we all learn in different ways. Below are some universal steps to mastering the art of recalling so that you can start memorizing a ton of data in a short amount of time.
1. Prepare your Mind
First of you have to remove anything that can clutter your mind, free yourself of worries. Do not begin with liquor or anything that will impair your mind. Choose a place conducive to memorizing, usually a quiet place away from distractions and noise. There are also foods or drinks that help make the mind sharper, you can imbibe such. However, do so sparingly.

2. Recording
Most people especially auditory learners (this are people that learn and retain faster what they hear than others), can take advantage of  a recorder either using your smartphone or some other recording device to make a record of what you want to memorize. listening to yourself speaking will help you retain and remember better.
3. Write Everything Down
Before you start trying to recall everything from memory, write and re-write the information. This will help you become more familiar with what you’re trying to memorize. Doing this while listening to your tape recorder can also help you retain a lot of the data. This is most useful for experiential learners (People that learn through repeated experiences).
4. Section your notes.
Now that you have everything written down in one set of notes, separate them into sections. This is ideal for visual learners(people that learn better and faster through sight) especially if you use color coding to differentiate between subjects. This will help you break everything down and start compartmentalizing the information being recorded in your brain. So use markers or highlighters of different colors. It is quite a fun way to memorize.
5. Apply Repetition
They say practice makes perfect, however, what they mean is repetition makes perfect. For each line of text, repeat it a few times and try to recall it without looking. As you memorize each set of text, be cumulative by adding the new information to what you’ve just learned. This will keep everything within your short-term memory from fading. Keep doing this until you have memorized that section and you are able to recall the entire thing. Do not move on to another section until you have memorized that one completely. If you are recording also replay over and over. Replay, rewind, replay.
6. Write it down from memory
Now that you can recall entire sections, write everything down from memory. This will reinforce everything you just have just learned by applying it experientially. You can also recite what you have been playing from memory. Don’t be discouraged if you do not get it, keep trying.
7. Teach it to someone (or yourself)
The most effective method for me when I was in school was to teach the information to someone else. You can do this in a variety of ways. You can lecture the knowledge to someone sitting right in front of you (or the mirror, if you can’t convince anyone to sit through it) and explain everything extemporaneously. Explaining to someone, engraves the information better in your subconscious and will make it far difficult to forget.
8. Listen to the recordings Always
While doing unrelated tasks like laundry or driving, go over the information again by listening to your tape recordings. This is certainly auditory learning, but it will still supplement everything you’ve shoved into your short-term memory. Even before you go to sleep, you can plug in headphones and continue listening, it is almost the same way we memorize songs.
9. Take a break
Finally, let your mind breathe. Go for a short time without thinking about what you just learned and come back to it later on. You’ll find out what you really know, of course, and this will help you focus on the sections you might be weakest at.

A TEENAGE GIRL WOKE UP DURING HER BRAIN SUGERYAND HAD A CONVERSATION WITH THE SURGEONS !!

A teenage girl woke up during her brain surgery and reportedly asked the surgeons how they were doing

Iga Jasica, a 19 year old girl from Katowice, Poland, is making multinational headlines for the strange phenomenon, which occurred during her brain surgery.

Iga was on the surgical table and the doctors were trying to remove the deadly cancerous growth she had in her skull, when the girl woke up mid-surgery. The surgeons had just opened up her skull in order to remove the cancer, when somehow Iga managed to regain her consciousness. Fortunately, she wasn’t capable of feeling any pain, so she just asked the doctors how they were doing. The surgeons were extremely baffled by this phenomenon and Iga’s bravery during the surgery and they kept talking to the girl – mostly about cats, which she adores. When questioned by the media later, the medics suggested that she might have awoken from the anaesthesia thanks to a neuron in her brain, which must have been triggered during the surgery. They also admitted it was absolutely unusual for a sedated patient to wake up during a surgery, especially when their skull is still open.
When Iga was asked about her own point of view after the surgery, she explained that she couldn’t remember much from it, but that she was feeling great after the procedure.

7 Signs You Need To Drink (Water)

We can’t live without water. It’s critical for proper body and brain function. It enables our blood to flow properly and helps us stay energized.
The good news: "Most people can handle mild amounts of 'dehydration,’” says Dana S. Simpler, MD, an internist in private practice in Baltimore. “The body regulates fluid balance through a number of complex pathways, including reduced urine production, increased reabsorption of water in the intestines and thirst — which prompts rehydration."
Simpler is careful to point out the difference between being low on fluids and clinical dehydration. "Dehydration mainly occurs with illnesses such as fever, diarrhea and vomiting where excessive fluids are lost and not being replaced or in a sport situations/hot weather where excessive perspiration is not being replaced," she explains.
So how much water do you need? And what about that old standby recommendation to drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day? “It’s an oversimplification of what the body actually needs,” says Simpler. "There is really no 'optimal' amount of hydration.” The weather, your diet and exercise habits are all a factor in how much water you need. Some days you’ll need more fluids, other days less.
Those fluids can come from virtually any drink and even some foods. Milk, smoothies, and juice drinks count. Caffeinated beverages, such as tea, coffee and energy drinks, count, too. Eating water-containing foods, including tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelon and oranges, is also a great way to up your fluid intake.
All things considered, it makes sense to clue in to symptoms that can signal the need for more fluids. Here are seven signs to pay attention to.

#1: You’re thirsty.

It may seem obvious, but a dry mouth and how thirsty you are do correlate to how hydrated you are.

#2: You’re hungover.

Processing alcohol requires water. If you overdid it last night, you need to drink as much as a quart or more water than you usually drink, says Ralph E. Holsworth, DO, an osteopath at Southeast Colorado Hospital in Springfield, CO. Even better, head off dehydration in the first place. “If you’re going to drink alcoholic beverages, try to drink one eight-ounce glass of water for every alcoholic beverage you consume to help reduce your dehydration risk,” he advises.

#3: You’re lightheaded or worn out.

If you feel dizzy, you may be dehydrated. First, stop your activity and rest, says Lisa Katic, RD, a registered dietitian in Washington, DC. Reach for fluids such as water or a sports drink with electrolytes, which replaces both lost fluids and minerals. Drinking should help you feel steadier.

#4: Your urine is extra dark.

Concentrated urine is a clear indicator that you’re dehydrated. It means your urine has more waste in it. (Staying hydrated makes it easier for waste to be flushed out efficiently.) “Ideally, your pee should be pale yellow,” says Holsworth. “If it’s dark yellow, you’re probably not drinking enough.” Katic says the recommendation is to drink six ounces of water within an hour if you notice your urine is darker than normal.

#5: You’re tired.

If you’re just plain pooped, dehydration may be to blame. Our blood and bodily fluids are made up mostly of water, so if you’re extremely dehydrated, your heart has to pump harder to carry blood throughout your body. The result: intense fatigue, says Katic.

#6: You can’t concentrate.

Dehydration can often impair your ability to focus on a certain task. “By hydrating, you’ll do wonders to improve your mental acuity,” Katic says. In fact, even mild dehydration can alter your mood and energy levels, according to two recent studies conducted at the University of Connecticut’s Performance Laboratory.

#7: You’re constipated.

The better hydrated you are, the better you’ll digest your foods, Katic says, explaining that water helps waste move along from your stomach through your intestines. If you’re dehydrated, your stools may be harder, making them more difficult to pass. To prevent constipation, don’t forget to eat plenty of fiber in addition to getting enough fluids.

What's up!!!

What's up peepz of ksu, january is ending, valetine is coming, matric is coming, batch B still not out yet,and kogi state is making history,to be honest I think we are lucky to be in the middle of this historic period. I mean,we have a governor who has no deputy, how ironic right ??
Aniways,we gat ksu news for y'all, foremost, the registration  portal for returning student has been enabled meaning returning students can now proceed with registration.
Also, the change of course list is out in the senate building for those whom it may concern.
Finally, aspirants who are still waiting for admission should constantly check their names in the batch A incase of updates.
Meanwhile,we have this amazing piece for ksu students on examination malpractice, check it out:
My Advice To Students On Examination Malpractices
So,basically,I know am meant to define examination malpractice for y'all but you know perfectly what it is so am just gonna cut to the chase here.
Malpractice is a bad thing, its really bad cause it means while other students are in the same exam hall with you trying to figure out answers to the same question as you,you are busy with the intention of "cheating". Exam cheating is criminal, its sinful as anything that includes cheating in it isn't accepted by any culture all over the world and even God himself in his glory detest cheating.
The thing with most students who become exam cheats is they see it as a normal thing. They most definietly know its not a good thing but they don't see it as an extremely bad habit, owning to the fact that students in nigeria cheat at every level of education in modern times, the primary school level, the secondary school level and in universities. The true fact about cheating is its extremely bad, that's why the consequence for cheating in all universities in nigeria, and most definitely in kogi state university is direct expulsion, there is no two ways about that.
I understand the fact that student are always under immese pressure to succeed academically, the thing about pressure though is that it can either be supressed or increased depending on your actions towards tackling this pressure. You want to pass a course by fire by force and you haven't been attending lecturers or studying and you think what will save you is expo's and exhibits, not only are you putting yourself under more pressure you are also putting yourself at risk of getting caught and getting expelled. You might escape getting caught but you have just damaged yourself psychologically as you now think you can't pass wthout cheating.
To be honest, there is really no point cheating, because there is no point cheating to pass courses and having no idea what that course is about because you didn't study, then there is no point schooling atall if you can't fulfill the main purpose of you been in school which is learning and studying to build yourself into someone you will be proud of,your parents will be proud of,ksu will be proud of and nigeria as a whole will be proud of. You think your first class certificate is what companies out there need to further develop, then why are people who didn't even go to school succeeding in  life ?? Its your output that's needed. Those big companies need your big brain, and what's been stored in it,meaning you have to learn in school,at the end of the day you can only give what you have. Books and lectures aren't easy, some books are even harder to understand, but the thing about all learning processes is when you devote yourself to it,you'll understand. Start studying harder now, that's the only way. Don't rely on cheating, you are only killing yourself when you cheat.

Am out,have a lovely thursday !!!
