JAMB Will Not Postpone The 2016 Admission Deadline - JAMB Boss

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) yesterday stated that the deadline for the conclusion of admissions into higher institutions for 2016 remains effective.

This was disclosed by the Registrar of the board, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, during his address at the opening of an Extra-Ordinary Technical Committee Meeting on 2016 Admissions to First Choice Institutions which was held at the Baze University, Abuja.

He mentioned that some institutions were not able to submit names of their admitted candidates for approval as internal processes leading to the exercise had not been completed.

It was gathered that such institutions have requested for an earlier special date than the date for the Second Technical Committee Meeting scheduled for Nov. 14 in Owerri, Imo State.

According to him, the affected institutions are expected to make presentations of their recommended candidates to the board at the meeting.

University sacks 35 staff over insufficient funds

The Federal University, Lafia, has terminated the appointment of 35 of its non-teaching staff over the inability of the institution to pay their salaries.

Mohammed Sanusi-Liman, Vice Chancellor of the university, told journalists on Sunday, September 18, in Lafia that the council took the decision due to insufficient funds.

Mr. Sanusi-Liman explained that the affected staff, who were employed by the institution earlier in the year, comprised 11 corps members who were retained after their service year and 24 others.

He said the council had directed the management to source for funds and pay off the affected staff since they had worked for over five months without being paid.

“It would be inhuman to keep the staff working when we cannot pay them giving our poor budget and that is why the council decided that we should pay them off,” he said.

According to him, the university has consistently encountered a shortfall of over N38 million in its allocation for several months, which had adversely affected the running of the institution.

He also confirmed that the management had uncovered a job racketeering syndicate in the university, which had offered illegal employment to some persons.
“When we got wind of the matter, the management set up an investigative committee which turned in a report that was submitted to the council.

“The university council referred the matter to its disciplinary committee for investigation and appropriate action,’’ he said.
On the post UTME screening of candidates for admission into the university for the 2016/2017 academic session, the vice chancellor said that over 4,000 applicants had been screened.

He added that the council would meet to determine its carrying capacity before the admission list would be released.

He also announced that the university council had approved the commencement of its post graduate programmes effective from the 2016/2017 academic session.

Exam board warns against unjust admission processes in 2016

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has cautioned tertiary institutions in Nigeria against any form of arbitrary and unjust processes during this year’s admission procession.

The registrar of the board, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede said this on Friday, September 16, during his address at the Extra-Ordinary 2016 Technical Committee Meeting on Admissions into First Choice Institutions held at Baze University in Abuja.
He stated that, while institutions reserve the right to admit students, they must justly explain why other candidates were rejected.
“The institutions have the right to select (their students) but they must be able to explain if someone is not taken.”
“Universities have the right to determine the criteria for admission but the criteria must be reasonable, explicit and must have been published prior to application by the candidates.”
During his speech, Oloyede bemoaned the admission criteria of some institutions which is supposed to be universal.
“Even when you are not having candidates from other parts of the country or one reason or another, you should be able to be national no matter your proprietorship,” Oloyede said.
“A situation where you have a federal university with students from only 10 to 15 states of the federation, that shows that the institution is not justifying its existence. We are insisting that every institution must have students from every state of the federation in order to bring national cohesion, unity and students who will be global products.”
He said that, although JAMB will not be entitled to inserting students into any institution, the board would ensure that all candidates are treated fairly which is part of its role as  a referee for justice, equity and standards.
Oloyede assured that the “only difference between this year’s admissions process and what has always been the practice, is the policy that there should be no written post UTME test. All other processes remain.
“A situation where requirements that were not stated in the brochure to guide candidates suddenly become applicable during admissions exercise would be unacceptable. This is because a condition not stated in the rules cannot be effected to the detriment of law abiding applicants who applied in accordance with the institutional provisions in the brochure,” he said.

WHAT'S UP :SCREENING,STRIKE AND OTHER ISSUES

What’s up ladies and gentlemen of ksu, or paau. It’s been a rather sub-due week in the KSU world, with the screening registration and preparation still in the mix. The release of NECO results is coming at the best possible time for aspirants.
Down to the issues;

ISSUES:
-         Second semester registration has commenced for undergraduates: Students can now go to the school portal and register their second semester courses and also begin to sign their course forms. However, it is important to note that this is (at the moment) applicable to 100 level students as 200 level upward will have to wait for the release of the previous session’s second semester results (in case of carry overs).
-      Neco june/july ssce results for 2016 released   : Great news for aspirants who have some few problems with their WAEC results and will be looking to combine both results.
-         Direct entry form now on sale: Interested candidates can now apply.
-         ASUU denies threatening to embark on strike: This week’s (and several other weeks) most topical issue. Recall that some reports had stated that the Academic Staff Union of Universities had slated October 2nd for a nationwide warning strike, and a full blown strike in November if the federal government failed to look into the issues they tabled. This report was emphatically denied and the strike report has been laid to rest, well, at least for now. This is more like the best news of the year for the KSU world, something of the sort (if you know what I mean). We’ve done three (fricking) months already, any news of strike is just not good at this point. Please, no more strike news, no more.

That’s it for this week. Stay blessed.
Am out !!

No plan to strike, ASUU assures Nigerians

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has no plans to commence an interim strike on October 2, an official has said.

The Chairman of the University of Abuja chapter of ASUU, Ben Ugheoke, on Wednesday said that he was wrongly quoted on a planned strike. The News Agency of Nigeria had quoted Mr. Ugheoke on Tuesday as saying the lecturers’ strike would commence next month.

In an interview on Wednesday, Mr. Ugheoke told said he never gave such statement to the NAN reporter. “A certain reporter in NAN is responsible for this damage,” he said. “As a result of this falsified report, I am facing a panel later tonight from ASUU National body.” The university don said he had asked for a rebuttal of the story since it was published. “I have reached out to the NAN reporter and he told me it was a mix-up. He also begged me to save his job,” he said.

In the report widely circulated by Nigerian media, the government news agency quoted the don as saying ASUU was to embark on a one-week warning strike from October 2. The report also said a full blown strike was planned for November if the federal government failed to meet the demands from its negotiations with ASUU in 2009 and 2013.

The report also highlighted that the federal government was yet to provide funds for the Universities NEEDS Assessment and the facilitation of the registration of the Nigerian Universities Pension Management Company, NUPEMCO. Speaking on ASUU, Mr. Ugheoke said the union had been sensitizing the public on its stance on national issues and university education. “We have had zonal press conferences. Abuja zone had its own on August 31, 2016. Although I was present, the event was anchored by the zonal coordinator, Theophilus Lagi”.  “During the event, we listed all the things we have been trying to get the federal government to look into. “This we did so that the general public can be made aware of what we are doing and the current state of things between ASUU and the federal government. “We have never given a date for any form of strike, whether warning strike or full blown strike. There was nothing like a date fixed for a strike,” he said

The Things You Need To Survive As A Nigerian Graduate In The Real World

Image result for picture of nierian graduate

This article is dedicated to students who are still in high school, and undergraduates in the higher institutions learning. For those who are privileged to have access to formal education, there is this long time belief that higher education would guarantee one financial security, fame and success in life. Hence the common advice parents give their children is “go to school, get good grades and a high paying job is guaranteed”. The reality is that this belief and strategy of surviving in the real world is now outdated. Graduates who see the acquisition of a degree as a means of surviving in the real world only get outside there to find out that they were not ready for life at all.

To survive in a 21st century world as a Nigerian graduate, you must equip yourself with the following five tools.

(1) SKILL: One thing you are going to need badly after school and for the rest of your life is money, that is why you still see men in their 40s, 50s even 60s still riding okada and driving taxi to earn money. The truth is that immediately you become a graduate your parents or those who were responsible for your training will stop supporting you financially. They will assume you now have all it takes to survive, so the collection of pocket money will stop, and you will have to start solving your financial problems with your own earning ability. What this implies is that you will have to look for job with your certificate, and most often you will likely be underemployed, meaning you will not be paid what you are worth. The consequence of this is that you will end up not having enough financial resources to actualize your goals. Solving your financial problem will become difficult, and definitely the need for money will rise, because you will start thinking of getting a place for yourself, so that you can be on your own, getting married, going for a master’s program and so on. As this happens, psychological problems such as frustration, depression, self-pity, low self-esteem will start setting in, and if you are not careful, you may get demoralized to the point giving up on life.
To survive or avoid this you need a skill. Skill is the ability to do something very well. In the real world, people don’t pay you for your certificate, they pay you for what you can do, and that’s is the only legal way of getting money in the society, if you do otherwise, you would be called a fraudster, a thief or an armed robber. For example if I know how to repair phones anyone who has any problem with his/her phone will always come to me , and by the time I help him/her to solve the problem, the individual will pay me for that service. Now the question is what can you do? How can you render direct service with your current course of study?
The point here is you must have a skill. If you have none yet, enroll in a training center and start learning something. There are so many things you can learn within three months, and that would earn you nothing less than 50,000 per month.
Never look down on any skill, just consider your interest and what you love doing, and then acquire a skill in that area. When you do this, you can easily become your own boss after school or even before you graduate. If you are a graduate already reading this article and don’t have a job yet I recommend same. With an extra skill, you can increase your income. Never put your hope on getting a job that is not certain. To be forewarned is to before armed.

(2) INFORMATION: There is a general believe that knowledge is power, and that is very true. The 21st century world is information driven, and you need to consistently update yourself with the latest information in the areas that are critical to your survival. Sometimes people suffer because of ignorance.
If you must meet up with the latest trend, you have to develop the habit if continuous learning, you must be an ardent reader and an unrelenting information seeker. Try as much as possible to know everything you need to know that will help you to maximize your potentials. Always remember that what you don’t know is more powerful than you. Keep yourself informed so that you will not be deformed.
Besides the acquisition of information, one other critical thing is the application of the information you have obtained. Having information without using is meaningless. Strive as much as possible to know all that you need to know about moving to your next level and take action at the right time.

(3) GUT: According to oxford advance learner dictionary, gut is defined as the courage or ability to do something difficult or unpleasant. The truth is that life is not fair for anybody, and definitely you are going to have your own share of life’s difficulty in your quest for success. If you must succeed in the real world, gut is a necessary factor, because without it you will lack the courage to take action when things are not favorable, and that will keep you long in the valley of mediocrity. You may be very intelligent while in school, but after graduation you will discover that so many of your classmates who were not as intelligent as you were back in your school days are getting ahead, the reason is simply because they have the gut to try their ideas and that’s what is getting them going.
To develop this quality, all you have to do is to cure yourself of every known fear. Experts in the field of personal development have identified certain fears that contribute to people’s failure in life. Such fears include, the fear of death, fear of loss love, fear of ill-health, fear of criticism, fear of physical pain, fear of old age and so on. I assure you that if you can master these basic fears, you are going to have enough gut to try anything. Action is what produces result. You will never succeed if you don’t try and to try all you need is gut.

(4) HARD WORK: In all of human history, hard work has been a critical tool of success, nothing can replace it. For you to survive and excel in the real world, you need an unwavering ability to take action, and persevere until you succeed. Most persons fail in life due to idleness. If you want to be poor all you need to do is be idle, and before you know it poverty will overtake you. A wise man once said that “where talent is lazy, hard work overtakes it”. No matter how knowledgeable, gifted and talented you are, if you refused to be hard-working, you will definitely be a failure. Always have it in mind that hard work is the only way. Never forget to always blend your hard work with strategic planning and persistence. Hard work combined in this manner will produce success.

(5) NETWORKING: Networking has to do with your ability to connect with people that will help you in getting to your next level. Niyi Adesanya, a personal development expert based in Nigeria once define individual competitiveness (in my own word, your capacity for success) as ‘’what you know + how you express it × by who you know and who knows you’’. I completely agree with his definition. The caliber of people you know and people who know you has a way of facilitating your success in life. As the world is today, the people we know to be the best in certain field are not actually the best. There are so many people who would have out-shined them if they are brought out of obscurity, but because they are not known by those who can position them to receive the honour they are worthy of, they remain irrelevant in their cocoon. If we must fully maximize our potential and remain relevant, our ability to network and connect with people who can help us get to our next level is critical.

Hobbies That Will Make You Smarter

Image result for picture of a smart person

There is a general perception that we can’t do much to enhance our intelligence. It’s almost always believed that whether you’re smart or not is determined right at birth and you can’t do anything about it.
However, these are all misconceptions. While some people have conditions that prevent them from being able to increase their intelligence level, for most people, there are plenty of things that can be done to make them smarter.

Hobbies are integral parts of our lives, and once developed, we find  ourselves immersed in them on a regular basis. Hobbies are fun and invigorating- and they can also have a great influence on our intelligence.

1. Play a musical instrument.

Confucius said a long time ago, “Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without”. Music stimulates your brain, and this has been proven by research as well.Music has the power to invoke complex emotions and psychological states. Various researchers have shown that both listening to music and playing a musical instrument increases memory capacity.
Playing a musical instrument also teaches you patience and perseverance for it takes time and effort to learn to play a musical instrument. It also sharpens your concentration.

2. Read voraciously.

Reading goes a long way towards increasing your intelligence level- this is further the case if you read voraciously across many different topics, from fiction and biographies, to anthologies.
Reading reduces stress, helps you to experience multiple emotions, and teaches you a lot about many subjects. All these factors help you to feel better about yourself; being at peace with yourself is one of the most important foundations for positive wellbeing.
Reading is very important for enhancing your knowledge on a subject, preparing for all sorts of situations and being more productive in how you go about achieving your goals.

3. Meditate regularly.

The foremost benefit of meditation is to help you focus on yourself and to get you to know your true self. Being engrossed in meditation helps individuals transcend to a higher state of being.
Meditation helps to reduce stress levels and gets rid of all sorts of worries. With a calm and composed state of mind obtained through meditation, you can learn, think and plan things in a much more effective way.
Regular meditation helps you to have full control over yourself. Being aware of distractions and effective methods of self-control are of the utmost significance when working to improve your intelligence.

4. Work out your brain.

Just as you need to work out regularly to keep your body fit, you also need to work out your brain to keep it in good shape. Regularly challenging the brain to do new things enhances its abilities and helps to keep you sharp. You can work out your brain in plenty of ways such as through: sudoku, puzzles, board games, and riddles. All these activities help the brain to continue forming new connections. Through such activities you also learn to respond to situations in creative ways, develop the ability to see things from a lot of different perspectives and become significantly more productive.

5. Exercise often.

A healthy body helps to ensure that you have a healthy brain. After all, your brain is like another muscle in your body. Exercising regularly keeps your brain and body functioning as they are supposed to. It reduces tension and helps you to sleep better.Doctors agree that better blood circulation to the brain means increased brain function. Various studies on mice and humans have shown that cardiovascular exercise can create new brain cells, and thus improve overall brain performance.

6. Learn a new language.

Learning a new language may not always be an easy task but it definitely has numerous advantages-making you smarter, being one of them.
The process of learning a new language involves tasks such as analyzing grammatical structures and learning new words, which enhances your intelligence and brain health.
It has also been proven through various experiments that people with high levels of verbal-linguistic intelligence are great at planning, decision-making and problem-solving.

7. Write your feelings down.

There are tons of benefits that you can receive from writing, including increasing your overall level of intelligence.
Writing improves your linguistic abilities, of course. But it also helps you to develop such skills as focus, creativity, imagination, and comprehension.
Writers are often considered as having very high levels of intelligence. You can write in different ways. You can write things with your hand or you can create your own blog. Whatever you do, you are giving words to the images in your mind; learning to express yourself clearly is a great way to boost your intelligence.

8. Travel to new places.

Travelling is not just a way to kill your boredom- there’s lot more to it than that. Travelling can really boost your intelligence.
The physical and mental workouts involved with travelling, rid your mind of stress. As you become stress-free, you are more able to focus on tasks, observations, and deepening your understanding of subjects.
Every new place you travel to offers new things to learn. You encounter diverse people, food, culture, lifestyle and society while travelling, which puts you in touch with ideas you might never have thought of previously.

9. Cook different kinds of meals.

Many of us feel that cooking is a mere waste of time and it’s something we very much want to avoid.
But instead of whining, you should feel happy when you have the opportunity to cook. Regular cooks, particularly the ones who try out a variety of meals, have high levels of creativity. They are committed to quality, aren’t afraid to try things out and they pay great attention to details.
Whenever you cook something, you are learning to multitask, measure with precision and make quick decisions. With all of these skills you’re acquiring, you’re becoming smarter too.

10. Participate in sports actively.

Participating regularly in sports activities doesn’t only exercise the muscles but also does the same for the brain. Playing sports regularly makes the brain more flexible and improves overall brain health.
Sports have added benefits too. Watching sports has been linked with increased brain function, and through exercising you work out your muscles. Involvement in sport also enhances responsiveness, coordination, capabilities, and confidence.
Top athletes are known for their special form of intelligence. It doesn’t matter whether you play football, basketball or cricket. Consider being regularly involved in some form of sport to boost your brain’s performance.

How You Become Unattractive And You’re Not Aware of It

Image result for picture of lonely person

Everyone strives to be a great person, kind, caring, and compassionate. But for some people, that’s not always the case. There are many behaviors or ‘bad habits’ that people have that make them seem unattractive, annoying, or someone that no one wants to be around with. A few of these harmful characteristics are offered for you below, and if you happen to realize that you embody any of them – quit! You might find your circle of friends grow once you do.

1. You are Self-Absorbed
Many people do this without realizing it. You focus solely on yourself, talk only about yourself, and often don’t care what others around you have to say. You think you’re the only one who matters. If this is you, it’s time to change. No one wants to be a friend with someone who only cares about themselves.

2. You Focus on Outer Beauty, Ignoring What’s Inside
Surprisingly, true beauty comes from within your heart, body, and soul. Your physical appearance isn’t what should matter, but people with unattractive behaviors think that outer beauty is all that matters. Take a look in the mirror – deep within yourself – and you might see what lies beneath. An ugly person. Unless you change your way of thinking.

3. You are Always in Competition
Are you the person who has to be better than everyone else, see more, do more? If so, you’re an unattractive person. You should be more caring towards your friends, and let them have their moment. If they overcame their fear of heights and climbed 10 feet in the air, don’t say, “That’s all? I’ve climbed 30 feet!” Instead say, “Wow! That’s awesome. I’m really proud of you.”

4. You View Your Friends as Enemies
People who are seen as unattractive are often in fights with their friends. Instead of banning together and truly being able to care for others, you’re always turning your back, and stabbing them in theirs. Your friends are not your enemies.

5. You Question Your Importance to Others
You are definitely an unattractive person when you constantly question why others don’t see you as important as you think they should. For instance, your two friends went somewhere without you – it doesn’t matter to them – but to you it does. Get over it. They’re still your friend, and their lives don’t stop when you’re not around.

6. You are the Boss
In a group of friends, everyone should be on an equal playing field. If you’re the one always making the decisions, constantly needing to be in charge, or trying to control what others are doing, you’re acting in an unattractive way.

7. You are Dishonest
When it comes to being a great friend, or someone who others want to be around, you need to be honest. Many people who partake in ugly behaviors are often dishonest, lying about everything, inquiring about every question asked about them, and how they truly feel about different things. Yes, honesty is the best policy.

8. You are Rude
If you’re the person that’s frequently impolite, offensive, or embarrassing your friends with your rude comments in public – quit. You’re not someone people want to be around. There are going to be times when you don’t agree with someone, or see something you didn’t want to see, but there’s no point in making a scene, because you’re making everyone look at your terrible behavior and they’re not seeing what you’re seeing.

9. You are Unreliable, Yet Dependent Upon Others
Are you there when your friends call for help? Or are you always busy when someone needs you? If you’re the person no one can count on, that’s an unattractive quality in friendships. Similarly, if you’re the one always calling for help from others, yet never offering yours when they need it, that’s another unattractive quality that no one wants in a friend.

10. You are Always Negative
Pessimism is not an attractive quality. If you’re constantly putting things down, or seeing situations in a negative light, try and change your attitude. Nobody wants to be friends with someone who’s constantly seeing the negative instead of the positive.
