Graduate school controversy

In 2008, Sabur filed a civil suit against Drexel University, claiming that the university engaged in fraud and defamation regarding Sabur’s pursuit of a doctoral degree. In the suit, Sabur charges that Yury Gogotsi, her former Ph.D. advisor, improperly used her research to apply for grants, and deliberately obstructed her degree. Trial proceedings began on August 9, 2010.
“But that was when I grew disillusioned with the science world. I saw bad conduct and realised that some professors weren’t motivated by a love of science. I fell out with the adviser who was supervising my PhD. I sued Drexel University in a civil lawsuit and the case has now gone into private, binding arbitration. I believe my adviser applied for grants and patents using my ideas, and took credit for them. He denies this and has accused me of stealing his work. Even though the university has cleared me of plagiarism it has still refused to award me my PhD.”, says Financial Times article.
This is the second lawsuit involving the Sabur family. In the previous one Alia Sabur’s “parents brought suit on behalf of their daughter and alleged that defendants board of education, its members, and the school district failed to provide their daughter with appropriate educational services in violation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act”. Six of the seven counts were dismissed.

It has been confirmed by a prominent personality in the senate building(who wants to stay anonymous) that subsequent admission list will be out as soon as possible. He further stated after being questioned that their will definately be othe admission list,as its a norm for universities to admit a particular number of candidates and said theirs high possibility a lot of aspirants(especially indigenes) will gain admission before the school's matriculation ceremony. He also said the school are still been patient but are likely to slate the matric date around feb ending or the early beginning of march.
So I implore aspirants to calm theirselves and hope and pray to be part of the names to be released.

Kogi state university is,like any other university,unique in standards,with ups and downs. Its a funny institution with different characters in all departments around the school.

However,their are some annoying traits that are common to most of ksu students. Check them out :

1. Spreading mind buggling and over the top rumours :

Ksu students and their rumors have one thing  common, "heart attack". Ksu students can fit kill with their mind bogging rumors. Someone will just wake up and cook up one heavy lie and spread it fast fast,remember six month renovation break ??

2. Rushing in for gst/eds lectures : 

This is mostly common in 100 level gst lectures. Its really really annoying. Its like the release of caged animals and from my 100 level days till now I still don't understand why ksu students do this. Why ??

3. Jokingly insulting people : 

Ksu students do this very often.

In the middle of a discussion they just indirectly jab you with soft words,the funny thing everybody will laugh it off when in actuality its an insult. Bad habit

4. Making loud and extremely dumb utterances in the middle of a lectures : 

They are fond of this thing en,a lecturer will be saying something or a student asking a question and before you know one loud annoying person yells something annoying hoping to be funny. Its extremely annoying

5. Not minding their business : 

You are probably gisting about something with your friend(s) or coursemate(s) and all of a sudden a guy/gal just comes and interrupt rudely giving his/her opinion on the matter when nobody asked for it. Its irritating.

6. Constant famzing : 

This is common among ksu gals like madt. You as a guy friend offers to stroll her home(which she accepts) and you guys take off from law faculty passing throuh that straight road to inikpi hostel,before you get to the school gate she has greeted like 15 guys already. For why ?? Its not even the fact that she's greeting guys that's annoying,its the way she does it. She will just leave una discussion to greet one mumu guy and come back again,then shout "heeeeeyyyy bayo,what's up now" for another guy again. Wetin happen na,atleast show a sign of respect for the guy your with at that moment. Its really annoying. 

7. Forming badoo on queue : 

On a queue in ksqueue,na everybody be prominent personality ooo. On atm queue like this everybody go dey form important peron ontop the 1000 wey dem one collect.

Shebi matric will come now,common 100 level students will start forming boss on queue to collect matric gown. Annoying thing.

8. Always comparing,wyning,complaning about everything : 

Ksu student do this practically everyday. Its either one university is better than ksu,or ksu is this and that and not good enough compared to some other universities,or something is wrong with this or that,its basicallt too much...haha...biko....if you hate the school that much then why are you in it in the first place...hun...??

9. Cycloning : 

Ksu students,especially those ones forming guru or forming bad guys are fond of cycloning,or cliqs. The ones forming guru are always seen packing themselves up and down in school for one group reading or the other asif their school fees was paid by one father. 

Also the ones forming badt guys or badt girls are always in their cliqs,and dem no sabi anything,if small thing happen now they will be the first to disappear.

10. Urinating in places inside school : 

This one is really really bad. Its common among guys. I mean why the hell would you turn a place inside the school to a public toilet. I don't understand. The smell that oozed out of the back of that social science building last semester was craaaaaaaaazzzzyy. They will start again this semester now. Why will you do something like that. Why ???

Mubarak took the initiative to address this need; he began teaching himself how to build a website using online resources. The result of his work was very amazing. He told the Business Daily in an interview at Nation Centre, Nairobi.‘‘I cleared high school in 2011, two years earlier I had developed a passion for computers that saw me set up a website for my adoptive parents who were running a bookshop. ‘‘They needed an online platform to expand their venture,’

He knew that was the price he had to pay for his dream. Most people found the young man’s action difficult to comprehend, but not Chris Kirubi; the business mogul who recommended Mubarak for the scholarship.Mubarak’s entrepreneurial leanings were discovered at an early stage, when he began business at Kamusinga High School in Bungoma County. This drive intensified as he grew older, I guess that explains why he turned down what young men his age would call a very rare opportunity; a fully paid scholarship to the prestigious Harvard University in the US.
‘‘Mr Muyika is enterprising and focused, I recommended him to Havard University but noticed that entrepreneurship came first and he had no obligation to pursue the course. Nowadays one can learn in many ways, even Bill Gates did not complete his studies. He walked out and aggressively did serious business,’’Chris tells Business Daily in a phone interview.
In January 2012, Mubarak registered Hype Century Technologies and Investments Ltd, a company which deals in web-designing and domain registration. He soon incorporated two of his friends in the enterprise and within three months, the business became a highly profitable one.
‘We started very small, with Sh50, 000 which I had saved from a freelance job I had been doing as a student and after High School. My first client was so impressed that he offered me space in his office at Rehema House in Nairobi,’’  He recounts.
HypeCentury has continued to grow and become profitable, expanding services to include domain name registration, online marketing, and more. Mubarak’s vision for HypeCentury is to grow East Africa’s economy by leveraging the power of the internet. Isn’t it clear that the young man is striding on the right path?
‘‘We had three computers and in a good month I would pocket between Sh60, 000 and Sh80,000, which I used to pay my two part-time employees. Our services varied from domain registration to web hosting and designing ’’ He says. ‘‘Most of the new staff were university graduates, I was dealing with the best talent in the market,’’
The entrepreneur Mubarak Muyika is also an Anzisha prize fellow; he contested in 2012 and was awarded with Sh1.1 million.
Since then, several major business doors have been opening at will for the young business man. In December 2012, Mubarak hit a big one when he entered business with Indian investor Jignesh Patel who runs I-Code Ltd. Mr Patel acquired a 25 per cent stake in the company while Mubarak had 60. By the end of the year the company had more than 900 domains.
‘‘Patel had 25 per cent shares, Wakwoma five per cent, Doursey 10 per cent and I had 60 per cent. I retained the chief executive’s position but I had the feeling that I was not maximising my potential. I opted to sell my shares and develop a new venture,’’ Mubarak tells Business Daily.
Soon after that, Mubarak registered another firm, Zagace, an enterprise management platform that uses Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and web-hosting resources to create a basic forum for business systems and processes. He rented a two-bedroom house which acts as his office and has employed about 12 computer programmers. Mubarak is set to take the world and may never relent until he achieves his purpose.
He had the option of wallowing in self-pity with a badge on his chest that says; “I am a helpless orphan, can’t you see?” instead he took charge of his life and became a solution to other people’s needs. You too can take the world, but first, you need to take charge of your life and then step out in faith. You are stronger and more intelligent than you know.

How to Stay Focused on Your Goals When You Are Worn Out

We all have goals and dreams, but it can be difficult to stick with them. Each week, I hear from people who say things like, “I start with good intentions, but I can’t seem to maintain my consistency for a long period of time.” Or, they will say, “I struggle with mental endurance. I get started but I can’t seem to follow through and stay focused for very long.”
Don’t worry. I’m just as guilty of this as anyone else. For example, I’ll start one project, work on it for a little bit, then lose focus and try something else. And then I’ll lose focus on my new goal and try something else. And on and on. When everything is said and done, I’ve stopped and started so many times that I never really made much progress.

This problem reminds me of a lesson I learned one day…Maybe you have felt this way too

On this particular day in the gym, there was a coach visiting who had worked with thousands of athletes over his long career, including some nationally-ranked athletes and Olympians. I had just finished my workout when I asked him, “What’s the difference between the best athletes and everyone else. What do the really successful people do that most people don’t?”The Myth of Passion and Motivation

He briefly mentioned the things that you might expect. Genetics. Luck. Talent. But then he said something I wasn’t expecting. “At some point,” he said, “it comes down to who can handle the boredom of training every day and doing the same lifts over and over and over again.” That piece of advice surprised me because it’s a different way of thinking about work ethic.
Most of the time people talk about getting motivated and “amped up” to work on their goals. Whether it’s business or sports or art, you will commonly hear people say things like, “it all comes down to having enough passion.” As a result, I think many people get depressed when they lose focus or motivation because they think that successful people have some unstoppable passion and willpower that they seem to be missing. But that’s exactly the opposite of what this coach was saying.
Instead, he was saying that really successful people feel the same boredom and the same lack of motivation that everyone else feels. They don’t have some magic pill that makes them feel ready and inspired every day. But the difference is that the people who stick with their goals don’t let their emotions determine their actions. Top performers still find a way to show up, to work through the boredom, and to embrace the daily practice that is required to achieve their goals.
According to him, it’s this ability to do the work when it’s not easy that separates the top performers from everyone else. That’s the difference between professionals and amateurs.

Working When Work Isn’t Easy

Anyone can work hard when they feel motivated.
When I was an athlete, I loved going to practice the week after a big win. Who wouldn’t? Your coach is happy, your teammates are pumped up, and you feel like you can beat anyone. As an entrepreneur, I love working when customers are rolling in and things are going well. Getting results has a way of propelling you forward.
But what about when you’re bored? What about when the work isn’t easy? What about when it feels like nobody is paying attention or you’re not getting the results you want? Are you willing to work through 10 years of silence?
It’s the ability to work when work isn’t easy that makes the difference.

It’s Not the Event, It’s the Process

All too often, we think our goals are all about the result. We see success as an event that can be achieved and completed.
Here are some common examples…

• Many people see health as an event: “If I just lose 20 pounds, then I’ll be in shape.”
• Many people see entrepreneurship as an event: “If we could get our business featured in the New York Times, then we’d be set.”
• Many people see art as an event: “If I could just get my work featured in a bigger gallery, then I’d have the credibility I need.”

Those are just a few of the many ways that we categorize success as a single event.
But if you look at the people who are consistently achieving their goals, you start to realize that it’s not the events or the results that make them different. It’s their commitment to the process. They fall in love with the daily practice, not the individual event.
What’s funny, of course, is that this focus on the process is what will allow you to enjoy the results anyway…
If you want to be a great writer, then having a best-selling book is wonderful. But the only way to reach that result is to fall in love with the process of writing.
If you want the world to know about your business, then it would be great to be featured in Forbes magazine. But the only way to reach that result is to fall in love with the process of marketing.
If you want to be in the best shape of your life, then losing 20 pounds might be necessary. But the only way to reach that result is to fall in love with the process of eating healthy and exercising consistently.
If you want to become significantly better at anything, you have to fall in love with the process of doing it. You have to fall in love with building the identity of someone who does the work, rather than merely dreaming about the results that you want.
In other words…
Fall in love with boredom. Fall in love with repetition and practice. Fall in love with the process of what you do and let the results take care of themselves.
