For most ksu undergraduate students, preparing for the
semester’s examinations, is usually difficult. But once
you get yourself into that mode, the reading comes
easier. Like they say in physics it is more difficult to
move an object from rest than to keep the object in
motion. Therefore, what are some things you should
do to shake off lethargy and get your head into the
exam reading? Below is a comprehensive list:
1. Gather Reading
Material
Work becomes easier with
availability of tools. The
same goes for
examinations, to get
yourself into the proper
frame of mind to read, you
need to gather all the
materials pertaining to the
courses you are offering
that semester. This might
include notes, photocopies
of notes, pdf materials and
textbooks. Gather all that
you will need and keep properly.
2. Timetable
Manyunderestimate the
valueof a good and
reasonable timetable. This
is because most times,
they find it difficult to
adhere to it. However a
good timetable should not
be too strict, it should
simply e a guide, on WHEN
and WHAT to read. It
should also be reasonable,
with ample time for rest
and other activities. Your
timetable maybe pasted
where your eyes can fall on
it during the day, so it will
serve as a reminder.
3. Set goals
It is said that when you keep in mind your destination,
the journey is less tiresome. Therefore it is important
to set reasonable goals as the examinations approach.
Get out a sheet of paper, write out the courses you are
offering and beside each course, write out the grade
you would like to have. Put this grades on your
timetable too. Keeping your goals in mind, can help get
you fired up to read.
4. Course Outlines
Sometimes you do not know the outline of the course
you want to read, making it more difficult to read
pointedly. Look at your departmental handbook, or
ask your lecturer for thr outline of the course for the
semester. Knowing what you have to read, and the
extent to which you have to go, will help you avoid
wasting time on unnecessary details.
5. Change Location
For some people the biggest barrier to reading for
examinations is their location. They have become so
comfortable in their rooms, that the body refuses to
be motivated. If you notice this to be true, then it is
time to change your location. You can go visit a friend
throughout the duration of the exam, or the weeks
preceding the exam. You will find it more difficult to be
too relaxed, if you pick a good location.
6. Be determined
Determination is a very important quality. If you are
not determined to do well in the examination, then
you will find it difficult to get yourself into the reading
mode. Look for determination within yourself and fuel
it daily. The more determined you are to pass, the
higher your chances of studying, to make your wish,
come to pass.
7. Change Friends
Show me your friend and I will show you whom you
are, is a saying we all have heard at one time or the
other. Yet, it still rings true for examination
preparations. If the people you spend most of your
time with are unconcerned about doing well in the
examinations, you will be affected. However, if you
spend time with other students, who are constantly
worrying about this course and that course and who
study very well, you will also be affected positively.
Choose wisely.
The earlier you get into the examination reading
mode, the more likely you will smile at the end. So
start now.
